Myles David Redd Penix Transfer Scholarship for Veterans
The "Sgt. Myles David Redd Penix Transfer Scholarship for Veterans" was established for honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces.
Sgt. Myles Penix first served in the Navy as a Seabee. After an honorable discharge he enlisted in the Army. He had a thriving career, and received several awards, medals, and ribbons. He was proud of his leadership roles and the assignments he served through NATO. Sgt. Penix planned to become a lawyer. The hope for the recipient of the scholarship is that he/she carry on Sgt. Outstanding Speaker - Pieleat-Morad Award
The Pielaet-Morad award is named after two students who were part of the team. David Pielaet and Feras Morad’s time on the team was separated by more than 30 years, but both men embody excellence winning multiple national championships as well as dedication to their communities. Both of their lives were tragically cut short in the summers after they were on the team, David’s in a tragic car accident and Feras as the victim of a senseless murder.
Each year this award is given in their honor to our top student who has completed their competitive career on the team and reflects the values represented by these young men. *The Scholarship Committee basis the selection of recipients on "Best contribution and Leadership" in the Forensics Team. Richard E. Gilman was recruited from his teaching position at Ventura College to become a founding member of the Moorpark College Science Department, where he taught for 15 years. He was a strong advocate for the community college and especially fond of Moorpark College.

This award commemorates Sprit, the mountain lion, who was raised and lived at the Teaching Zoo for over 20 years. Wyman-Strong Forensics
The Wyman-Strong award is named after the two former coaches who founded the team at Moorpark College. Jim Wyman, was the director of Forensics at Moorpark College for nearly four decades, and Dick Strong founded the team in 1971. Together, they built the number one community college forensics program in the nation, while also creating a safe place for students of all ages to discover and develop their talents and use it as a springboard for life success.
This award is given each year to the outstanding first year competitor on the team. Award: $500 |
